Care at the end of life/euthanasia/cremation We believe in helping your pet to enjoy a good quality of life throughout. When the time comes that this is no longer the case or indeed your pet is suffering, we may advise you that your pet should be put to sleep to avoid further unnecessary pain. When this decision is reached in consultation with you, it is usually better for euthanasia to be carried out at the surgery where we have the facilities and trained staff to help us. However, if you have a preference for euthanasia at home this can be arranged in advance. Whenever possible it is helpful to discuss the options available to you with the veterinary surgeon. You may choose to be responsible for your pet's burial, or alternatively you may prefer cremation. We are able to make all the necessary arrangements with a professional pet crematorium and have the ashes returned to you if you wish. It is impossible to measure the depth of the bond which develops between a pet and owner throughout the pet's lifetime, and we know that many owners find difficulty coping with the loss of a pet. If you wish to talk about your feelings to someone, you may arrange to speak to a trained member of staff or alternatively you can contact the Pet Loss Befrienders Associations Service on 01891 615285 who can advise you on an alternative local contact. If you have any reason to be less than satisfied with the service we provide we would like to hear from you. Please address your concerns in writing to one of the partners.
